London, UK – To mark National Manufacturing Day on 24 September 2026, Sumer’s manufacturing specialists will host a practical one‑hour webinar exploring the key financial, tax and employment challenges facing manufacturers today.
Designed for manufacturing leaders seeking practical, sector-specific advice, the webinar will provide clear guidance and real-world examples to help businesses manage risk, identify opportunities and prepare for upcoming changes. Attendees will gain practical insight to strengthen compliance, unlock reliefs, reduce risk and plan confidently for the year ahead.
Through their work with manufacturers of all sizes, Sumer’s specialists see first-hand the issues shaping the sector and the opportunities available to businesses that plan ahead. Across the UK, manufacturers continue to navigate a complex landscape of evolving accounting standards, tighter regulatory requirements, rising employment costs and pressure to innovate while maintaining operational resilience.
James Hallet, Manufacturing Specialist at Simmons Gainsford, part of Sumer, said:
“The webinar will help manufacturers understand and prepare for significant reporting changes, particularly around FRS 102 and lease accounting. Understanding these shifts on the numbers is essential. The right preparation helps businesses avoid surprises in their financial statements and remain compliant while continuing to invest in growth.”
The session will also explore the value of early advice when planning capital investment or pursuing innovation-related reliefs. Anthony Barber, Capital Allowances Specialist, at Simmons Gainsford, part of Sumer said: “Manufacturers investing in machinery, factory extensions or refurbishments may be missing valuable tax reliefs if claims are not reviewed at the right stage.”
Andrew Shannon, R&D and Patent Box Specialist, Sumer Northern Ireland added:
“R&D in manufacturing is often found in day-to-day operational or technical problem-solving, not only in breakthrough inventions.”
By bringing these perspectives together, Sumer will show how manufacturers can identify qualifying expenditure, maximise legitimate claims and use reliefs such as Patent Box to support continued investment and innovation.
Alongside the financial and tax focus, Susan Lockhart, Legal Director, Sumer Law will provide a practical update on employment law developments, including unfair dismissal reforms, trade union rights and obligations, and new employer responsibilities around workplace harassment. The update will focus on what these changes mean for manufacturers managing diverse and complex workforces.
